Glenn turns 60...

Happy Birthday Glenn

On February 3, 2008, our own Glenn Galey turned 60 years old.

That's really not that old, for a tree or a savings bond.

We celebrated his birthday in class. It was a wonderful way for all of us to express our appreciation for all that Glenn has done in his more than half a century, plus 10 years, of teaching and being a dedicated servant to Hattiesburg and especially the 1st Baptist Church.

One (very thoughtful) gift was a specially made sign which states emphatically, "I'm 60 years old, GET OFF MY LAWN". A special lense filter was used to take this picture so that it could be seen "as through the eyes of a 60 yr old," kinda blurry and out of focus.

Another gift was a framed verse from Jeremiah,
"Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord." This truly represents Glenn. He is a man who is known for his faith, service and trust in the Lord. We are most proud to know him and to share in his walk and teachings of the Lord.

The hat was something that he wore to class himself. He must have slipped out of the house without Gayle seeing it. We assume she dresses him, since his clothes usually match.

Happy birthday Glenn. We love you...you old goat.

Bob?...what are you doing!?!?!

FYI...

Bob was selected to play donkey basketball the other day. It was Lamar County Supervisors against Forrest County.

Somewhere in the rules of "Donkey Basketball" (like there are rules for this type of activity), the person leading the donkey is NOT suppose to let the donkey go and he is NOT suppose to jump on the other players.

Please note that this is our (normally) quiet reserved Bob doing this.

Men's Camp Out: 2007

Men's Camp Out and Male Bonding Experience: 2007

On Friday, April 20, 2007, Chris Shivers led an expeditionary team from the Galey Sunday School Class out to Lake Columbia (somewhere out in the far reaches of Marion County).

There were about 13 manly-men who braved the bitter elements (50 degree temperatures) and survived the night on rations of steak, potatoes and salad (and brownies).

It was a time of sharing and bonding...story telling and fire building.

The big surprise during the camp out was actually a two-fold event: 1) that Jeff Clark actually found the camp ground; and 2) that he stayed the entire night. (or that he knew he could not find his way home, so he reluctantly stayed)

Did I mention that there was a lot of story telling?

Here are some photos from the fun event. Thanks again to everyone who came and especially Chris and Marleen for organizing and making it all happen. We really appreciate what you guys do.

Find 30 Books of the Bible in this Paragraph

There are 30 books of the Bible in this paragraph. Can you find them all? This is a most remarkable puzzle. It was found by a gentleman in an airplane seat pocket, on a flight from Los Angles to Honolulu, keeping him occupied for hours. He enjoyed it so much; he passed it on to some friends. One friend from Illinois worked on it while fishing from his john boat. Another friend studied it while playing his banjo. Elaine Taylor, a columnist friend, was so intrigued by it she mentioned it in her weekly newspaper column. Another friend judges the job of solving the puzzle so involving; she brews a cup of tea to help her nerves. There will be some names that are easy to spot. That’s a fact. Some people however, will soon find themselves in a jam; especially since the book names are not necessarily capitalized. Truthfully, from answers we get, we are forced to admit it usually takes a minister or scholar to see some of them at the worst. Research has shown that something in our genes is responsible for the difficulty we have in seeing the books in this paragraph. During a recent fund raising event, which featured this puzzle, the Alpha Delta Phi lemonade booth set a new record. The local paper, The Chronicle, surveyed over 200 patrons who reported that this puzzle was one of the most difficult they had ever seen. As Daniel Humana humbly puts it, “The books are all right here in plain view hidden from sight.” Those able to find all of them will hear great lamentations from those who have to be shown. One revelation that may help is that books like Timothy and Samuel may occur with out their numbers. Also, keep in mind, that punctuation and spaces in the middle are normal; a chipper attitude will help you compete really well against those who claim to know the answer. Remember, there is no need for a mad exodus, there are really 30 books of the Bible lurking somewhere in this paragraph waiting to be found. God Bless.

----------------------------------------------------

Reply:

Dear Concerned Student:

Your parents, teachers and political leaders decided that it's best if I am not allowed in your schools.

Sincerely,
God

----------------------------------------------------------

How did this get started?...

----------------- Let's see, I think it started when Madeline Murray O'Hare complained she didn't want any prayer in our schools. And we said, OK..

------------------
Then , someone said you better not read the Bible in school, the Bible that says "thou shalt! not kill, thou shalt not steal, and love your neighbors as yourself," And we said, OK...

----------------- Dr. Benjamin Spock said we shouldn't spank our children when they misbehaved because their little personalities would be warped and we might damage their self-esteem. And we said, an expert should know what he's talking about so we won't spank them anymore.

------------------ Then someone said teachers and principals better not discipline our children when they misbehave. And the school administrators said no faculty member in this school better touch a student when they misbehave because we don't want any bad publicity, and we surely don't want to be sued. And we accepted their reasoning...

------------------ Then someone said, let's let our daughters have abortions if they want, and they won't even have to tell their parents. And we said, that's a grand idea...

------------------
Then some wise school board member said, since boys will be boys and they're going to do it anyway, let's give our sons all the condoms they want, so they can have all the fun they desire, and we won't have to tell their parents they got them at school. And we said, that's another great idea...

------------------ Then some of our top elected officials said it doesn't matter what we do in private as long as we do our jobs. And we said, it doesn't matter what anybody, including the President, does in private as long as we have jobs and the economy is good....

----------------
-- And someone else took that appreciation a step further and published pictures of nude children and then stepped further still by making them available on the Internet. And we said, everyone's entitled to free speech....

------------------
And the entertainment industry said, let's make TV shows and movies that promote profanity, violence and illicit sex... And let's record music that encourages rape, drugs, murder, suicide, and satanic themes... And we said, it's just entertainment and it has no adverse effect and nobody takes it seriously anyway, so go right ahead.

------------------
Now we're asking ourselves why our children have no conscience, why they don't know right from wrong, !and why it doesn't bother them to kill strangers, classmates or even themselves.

------------------ Undoubtedly, if we thought about it long and hard enough, we could figure it out. I'm sure it has a great deal to do with...

Windy Gap men's retreat 2006

All is well at Windy Gap.

Glenn Galey, also known as the "Mayor of Windy Gap," led a crew from Hattiesburg to the Windy Gap men's retreat over the weekend of Sept. 21 - 24, 2006.

The weekend was a gathering of men from around the nation who joined together to worship, learn and fellowship to the Glory of the Lord.

The weekend's premeire speaker was Dr. Gordon Fee , a world-reknown New Testament scholar, lectured on Paul's letter to the Philipians.

In addition to Dr. Fee's lectures, we ate, played like a bunch of school kids, worshipped, ate and then ate some more.

Windy Gap is owned and operated by Young Life. It is located fifteen minutes north of Asheville, North Carolina in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Built on 2,200 pristine acres, our beautiful setting includes amazing views of the surrounding mountains, lush forest, and Upper Flat Creek.

The 2006 session of Windy Gap was a tremendous experience for all who attended. It relaxes the mind (expands the waistline) and refreshes the spirit.

If you haven't gone...don't miss it next year's retreat scheduled for Sept 13 - 17.

And yes, Charles did consume about 1 lbs of ice cream right before this photo was taken.

Prayer request: Adam Trowbridge

Monday, Sept 18

Adam Trowbridge (jmw's friend) is in the hospital again (University, Jackson). Staff infection has developed in his chemo port. They will be able to control this relatively easy. He should go home on Tuesday.

Tad (his father) asked me to let everyone know how important the prayers are at this time. Please pray for Adam to have peace and no more pain. It has been a truly suffering experience for Adam and his family. I need everyone to pray. Pray for Adam’s pain to leave him. Pray for his children, Marshall and Kennan. Pray for his family, Joyce, Tad and Jim. Pray for his doctors and nurses. Pray for Adam.

thanks,
jmw

They are a strong Christian family, and are confident in her salvation, but we all know the stress and strains that severe illness puts on the entire family. Please pray for peace and support.

Urgent Prayer Request: Steve Richards (UPDATE)

Saturday, March 25 (Update)

Thank you for all of your prayer!! Steve was allowed to come on home last night. The spot on his lung turned out to be an air pocket that presented as a mass on regular x-ray (God intervened on that one!!!!). His staph has spread to his sinuses, so he will continue a bombardment of antibiotics, and of course, seek the Perfect Healing of Our Father :) He does have infection in his lungs, but pretty typical for C.F. If he does not improve, he will still be able to remain at home, and give himself I.V. antibiotics. Many praises for this weekend, and great thanks to all of our loved ones who went to the mat for Steve ;) Love you all
